PE & School Sport Premium Funding

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. Funding is to be allocated to all maintained and state-funded schools with primary phase pupils from 1 September 2013.

Allerton Primary School & Nursery received £9,740 in the academic year 2013/14 and £9,785 in 2014/15. Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

The DfE gave examples of how this funding might be spent and at Allerton we have used the grant by;

1. Employing a qualified coach to;
      - work alongside teachers in lessons to increase their subject knowledge and confidence in PE
      - to increase the provision of after-school sport on the school site so that more pupils can                  access sporting activities
      - provide training and payment for midday supervisors to introduce playground games and                sporting activities at breaks and lunchtimes

2. Introducing swimming lessons for Year 4 pupils from January 2014 to ensure that all pupils              have access to swimming in Years 4 and 5 and can swim by the end of Year 6

3. Additional lunchtime and after school sports clubs run by qualified coaches – the school                   currently runs 27 clubs each week

4. Increased the number of inter-school sports competitions with local schools

We will monitor the impact of the additional PE and Sport funding at the end of each academic year in relation to pupils by measuring;

- Attendance at clubs/activities before and after school
- Attendance at clubs within school
- Enjoyment of PE and sporting activities
- Performance levels in PE and sport
- Attendance at school
